Several industry leaders, writers and other stakeholders rallied round the Chief Executive Officer and Lead Consultant of OutsideIn HR, a human resource consulting and coaching firm, Ngozi Adebiyi, on Thursday, when she presented her first book titled Grow! a compilation of articles about life, leadership and business.
According to the author, Grow! is about asking, ‘Why are we here?’ and why people need to do better in the workplace. Amid accolades by stakeholders, she said, “I wanted to challenge people. I believe that as a leader you have the space to make a difference. It speaks directly to people looking to make a difference, move mountains and become more impactful in their careers, workplace and at entrepreneurial endeavours.”
As those who have read the book noted, the writer’s passion and desire to see people, organisations and the society make positive shifts is evident in several parts of the book.
A review of Grow! adds, “In a succinct way, she sheds light on how to effectively grow regardless of the field one operates in. She juxtaposes etiquettes, culture and character traits, illustrates the balance and wisdom she gathered from her rich and well-decorated career as an HR expert and consultant.”
In the foreword to the book containing 88 articles earlier published in BusinessDay and BellaNaija, a former Chairman of KPMG Africa, Seyi Bikersteth, notes, “I spent 38 years of my career at Andersen and KPMG. During this period, I was the chief executive of those firms for 20 years. In retrospect, my leadership at these two outstanding firms would have been better enhanced if I had the benefit of reading Ngozi Adebiyi’s amazingly insightful book, Grow!”
In her assessment of the book, Temitope Fajingbesi-Balogun, a writer, described Grow! as a valuable gift to entrepreneurs, managers and employees who want to stand out.
While Jubril Saba, an HR expert, noted that language use in Grow! was appealing, Deji Ishmael, Managing Director, Afrissance Limited, explained that it used a range of options including real life events, movie references and book recommendations to bring home leadership development, self-management, talent management and development issues.
