One of the goals from the Belo Horizonte stadium in which Germany inflicted their legendary 2014 defeat of Brazil will be sent to the Museum of the German FA (DFB) in Dortmund as part of a charitable gesture.
The donation consists of the goalposts and net that received five German goals in the first half of the World Cup semi-final, which the Europeans went on to win 7-1.
"Unfortunately we cannot change history, but in relation to this game we have found a way to benefit people from all over the country with resources collected in Germany that will be directed 100 percent to social projects in Brazil", the manager of Mineirao institutional relations, Ludmila Ximenes, explained at the ceremony.
"The agreement has already guaranteed funds of at least 100,000 euros for our projects."
It is planned for the goalnet to be divided into 8,150 pieces and delivered as part of a donation campaign. Meanwhile, the other goal will be exhibited at the Brazilian Football Museum in Belo Horizonte.
These souvenirs from the mythical 2014 victory will be sent to each person who donates the symbolic figure of 71 euros. Organisers hope to raise up to 500,000 euros via this campaign.
On July 8, 2014, the Brazilian nation was dreaming of lifting their sixth World Cup title, but suffered their worst defeat in history. Germany overwhelmed the hosts by scoring five goals in just the first half hour of the match.
Five days later, they went on to win in the final, beating Argentina 1-0 at the legendary Maracana in Rio de Janeiro to be crowned world champions for the fourth time in history. Leaders at the stadium have also planned a similar charity event and, in the coming days, they will send both goals to Germany.
