Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is simply apple cider with added yeast to start the fermentation process.
Many celebrities swear by the ACV diet and star taking it daily helps aid weight loss.
Kourtney Kardashian reportedly swears by drinking the tart vinegar twice a day.
Meanwhile other celebrities , such as Miranda Kerr and Megan Fox, have spoken out about their love of the health product.
There is evidence to suggest drinking apple cider vinegar can be good for weight loss.
Dr Carol Johnston, associate director of the nutrition program at Arizona State University, says this is because it targets body fat.
She suggests adding a small amount of apple cider vinegar to your diet can activate your metabolism so that it uses fat as a form of energy instead of storing it.
Apple cider vinegar can also reduce cholesterol, lower blood sugar levels and alleviate diabetes symptoms.
What's hot
Drinking just two tablespoons of ACV before bed can reduce blood sugar in the morning by 4%.
There are numerous studies about ACV and weight loss. The acetic acid in the vinegar can suppress your appetite, increase metabolism and reduce water retention.
Nutrition website Organic Daily Post says: “There’s no set amount of apple cider vinegar dosage that you should be drinking for health benefits that you’re looking to get.
“Since there’s no hard and fast rule, most reputable sources recommend drinking about a teaspoon to a table spoon three times a day.”
According to the website, you should drink the ACV diluted with water.
According to Healthline, drinking ACV can help you consume fewer calories, which can lead to weight loss.
One study of 175 people showed that drinking two tablespoons of ACV led to the loss of 2.7 pounds in three months.
Don’t miss
According to some studies, the effects of ACV seem to work best paired with starchy foods, as the acid breaks down the starch.
Meanwhile, a Japanese study found drinking 15ml, or three tablespoons of ACV twice a day for three months can help you loose 1kg, or two pounds.
Organic Daily Post says: “If you think that you should just open the bottle of apple cider vinegar and take a swig to get the recommended amount, you may be in for a rude awakening.
“It’s always best to dilute your apple cider vinegar to make it more palatable.
“You’ll want to add about one teaspoon to a tablespoon to a cup of water.”
Dr Johnston discourages anyone from drinking more than two tablespoons, because it contains acetic acid, which could cause oesophagus burns.
