Each year, the Cannes Film Festival gives extroverts a chance to shine on the most outlandish red carpet of them all. With celebrities from all over the world vying for attention, it can be hard to stand out—but there’s no fashion challenge that Araya “Chompoo” Hargate can’t handle. Currently five months pregnant, the Thai actress provided a chic maternity moment at the opening night premiere of Ismael’s Ghosts. Hargate brought her A game in a custom Ralph & Russo dress and coordinating silk cape, covered with crystals and ostrich feathers, a decadent sensibility that fit the anything-goes style ethos.
Similar to the sleek white Atelier Versace Amal Clooney chose for her trip to the César awards, Hargate’s ensemble defied rules about pregnancy dressing and provided Cannes with its first standout moment. Piling on the bling, feathers, and finery may not be for everyone, but Hargate’s look serves up a timeless lesson in being appropriately over the top.
