Zinedine Zidane ready for management return and is favourite to take over from Jose Mourinho at Manchester United

Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has said that he is ready for a return to management “soon”.

Zidane resigned from his role at Real Madrid after winning his third consecutive Champions League title in May and has been without work since.

The French manager previously suggested that he wanted a break from the game, however he told Spanish broadcaster TVE that he wants to return to management to continue his life’s work in football. “Yes, surely,” he said when asked about if he will back in the dugout shortly.

“Soon I will return to training because it is what I like and is what I have done all my life,” he added.

Zidane is the bookmakers' favourite to take over at Manchester United if Jose Mourinho leaves, but the Independent recently revealed Mourinho is under no immediate danger of losing his job and executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward wants to give him the chance to turn around their slow start to the season.

United suffered disappointing defeats against Brighton and Tottenham, but bounced back with a 2-0 win at Burnley before the international break.

During the match at Turf Moor a group of fans flew a plane over the ground with a banner that read: “Ed Woodward: A specialist in failure”.

Mourinho took little notice of the banner and dedicated the win to Woodward. “You know, in the match I am not looking to the sky – unless I am asking something for the guy to give me help. I didn’t see planes but Ed Woodward win this afternoon. He won 2-0.”
