Watch 12 minutes of Resident Evil 2’s remake in action at E3

Capcom offered a first glimpse of its Resident Evil 2 remake earlier this week during Sony’s E3 2018 press conference, and in a live demo during Tuesday’s PlayStation Live at E3 stream, the company revealed more about how it’s modernizing the survival horror classic.

The remake of Resident Evil 2 will feature an over-the-shoulder third-person camera perspective, à la Resident Evil 4. But the new Resident Evil 2 will be less of a shooter than later games were; Capcom says the remake of the original PlayStation game will retain its survival horror elements.

In terms of content, the Resident Evil 2 remake is being built on the foundation of the original, but it’s not a straight recreation. Capcom promises new gameplay elements, including the ability to build fortifications like boarding up windows to fend off zombies, in the new Resident Evil 2. What’s more, the sequel will even have bathrooms, as you can see in the tour of Raccoon City’s police department in the video above.

Resident Evil 2 is being developed in the same engine that powered Resident Evil 7 biohazard. The remake is coming to PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One on Jan. 25, 2019.
